CS2 Float Values Explained
Every CS2 skin has a float: a number from 0 to 1, fixed when the skin drops, that sets how worn it looks. The float decides the wear name on the skin, and the wear name is one of the biggest things in its price.
The five wear ranges
| Wear | Float range | AK-47 | Vulcan |
|---|---|---|
| Factory New (FN) | 0.00 to 0.07 | $558.37 |
| Minimal Wear (MW) | 0.07 to 0.15 | $367.09 |
| Field-Tested (FT) | 0.15 to 0.38 | $173.02 |
| Well-Worn (WW) | 0.38 to 0.45 | $129.56 |
| Battle-Scarred (BS) | 0.45 to 1.00 | $98.26 |

The same skin can cost several times more in Factory New than in Battle-Scarred. Inside one wear, a float close to the bottom of the range usually sells above one close to the top, because the skin looks cleaner: a 0.151 Field-Tested looks nearly Minimal Wear, a 0.37 one nearly Well-Worn.
Not every skin comes in every wear
Each skin has its own float range, and many don't run from 0 to 1. Of the 1,925 skins in our database, 61 can't be Factory New, 97 come only in Factory New or the very start of Minimal Wear, and 263 never reach Battle-Scarred. Some well-known examples:
- AK-47 | Redline0.10 to 0.70: Minimal Wear, Field-Tested, Well-Worn, Battle-Scarred
- AWP | Asiimov0.18 to 1.00: Field-Tested, Well-Worn, Battle-Scarred
- Desert Eagle | Blaze0.00 to 0.08: Factory New, Minimal Wear
- ★ Karambit | Fade0.00 to 0.08: Factory New, Minimal Wear
Float ranges from the game's item files. Every skin page on Betrefs shows its range.
Float in trade-ups
A trade-up contract's result takes its float from your inputs: since Valve's October 2025 trade up update, each input float is scaled to 0-1 within that skin's own range, the ten are averaged, and the average is placed into the result's range. Low inputs give a low-float result, which is how players aim for a Factory New output. Our trade up calculator works out the output float for you.
FAQ
- What is float in CS2?
- Float (the wear value) is a number between 0 and 1 that every skin gets when it drops. It decides how worn the skin looks and which wear name it has: Factory New from 0 to 0.07, up to Battle-Scarred from 0.45 to 1. It never changes once the skin exists.
- Is a lower float always better?
- Usually, because lower floats look cleaner and sell for more, especially near the bottom of a wear range (a 0.001 Factory New sells above a 0.069 one). There are exceptions: some skins look better worn, and a few patterns are wanted at a particular float.
- How do I check a skin's float?
- Inspect it in game, or look at its listing on a marketplace: most of them show the exact float on every listing. Your own inventory floats show on most marketplaces' sell pages after you sign in with Steam.
- Can float change?
- No. Wear is fixed when the skin is created. Using the weapon doesn't wear it down.
