How teams qualify

Since mid-2025 all 32 teams are invited (a last-chance qualifier only fills slots no invited team takes) from Valve's Regional Standings (VRS), a ranking for Europe, the Americas and Asia built from prize money won, who a team beat and head-to-head results. 16 teams start in Stage 1, 8 are invited straight into Stage 2 and 8 into Stage 3. A region gets a Stage 3 invite for each of its teams that reached the last Major's playoffs, and a Stage 2 invite for each team that reached its Stage 3.

Each stage is a 16-team Swiss bracket; the last 8 play a single-elimination playoff in an arena. Since Budapest 2025 the grand final is best of five. Sources: Valve's Major rulebook and Regional Standings.

Pick'Em and the Viewer Pass

Pick'Em is free in game for players with Prime: you predict which teams advance in each stage. Buying the Viewer Pass adds a Challenge Coin that your correct picks upgrade, from Bronze to Silver, Gold and Diamond.

At the Cologne Major 2026, each upgrade gave 300 tokens to spend on team stickers or souvenirs, and the "Souvenir-O-Matic" turned your own weapon into a souvenir of a match you picked. Half of what Valve makes from Major items goes to the teams, players and organiser.
