All 20 CS2 knife types
In order of release. Cheapest and most expensive count only wears that are actually traded, normal versions. Skins include the vanilla knife (the knife with no finish) and each Doppler phase. The first case and its date are from Valve's announcement of that case.
Bayonet, Flip, Gut, Karambit and M9 Bayonet: Valve's Arms Deal post of 14 August 2013 says the new weapon cases "have a chance to contain new knives" without naming any, so all five carry that date; the item data puts them in the CS:GO Weapon Case. The Horizon Case post announces "four all-new knives" without names, and the Huntsman and Shattered Web posts announce the case only. Where a post doesn't name the knife, which knives are in the case comes from the item data.

How to get a knife in CS2
Open a case
35 cases have knives as their rare special item. Each opening needs a key ($2.49 on Steam) and gives a knife about 0.256% of the time, or 1 in 391, going by the ratios in Perfect World's 2017 notice for CS:GO in China, which we assume still hold in CS2. Under those rules every knife in a case is equally likely, and 10% of knives come out StatTrak. The cheapest knife case right now is the Kilowatt Case at about $0.09, plus the key. The table above shows how many cases each knife type is in. Try opening any case for free in the case simulator, or see what a case returns on average in the case calculator.
Trade up five Covert skins
Since Valve's update of 22 October 2025, a trade up contract takes 5 Covert (red) skins. Valve's notes: 5 StatTrak Coverts give "one StatTrak Knife from a collection of one of the items provided", and 5 regular Coverts give one regular knife or one pair of gloves from such a collection. So the Coverts you put in decide which case's knives you can get. The trade up calculator shows the possible knives, the odds and the cost for any five Coverts at today's prices.
Buy one on a marketplace
The only way to choose the exact knife and wear. Prices for the same knife differ between marketplaces, and the Steam Market is usually the most expensive and pays sellers only in Steam Wallet funds. The price checker shows one knife's lowest listing on every marketplace we track, and what you'd keep after each site's fee if you sell.
Doppler phases explained
Doppler and Gamma Doppler knives come in phases: the same finish with a different color pattern. Each phase is its own skin in the game's item data, but Steam's market name doesn't say the phase ("★ Karambit | Doppler (Factory New)" for all of them), so marketplaces list each phase separately and price them very differently.
- Doppler: Phase 1, 2, 3 and 4, plus three rare phases, Ruby (red), Sapphire (blue) and Black Pearl (dark purple). 18 of the 20 knife types have a Doppler. The earliest case with Doppler knives in the item data is the Chroma Case (Valve's post of 8 January 2015).
- Gamma Doppler: Phase 1, 2, 3 and 4, plus Emerald (green). 10 knife types have one. They came with the Gamma Case, Valve's post of 15 June 2016 announcing "knives with the all-new Gamma finishes".
- Valve hasn't published the odds of each phase. A case or trade up first gives the knife and finish; which phase you get isn't something you can pick.
How much the phase matters: Karambit Doppler and Gamma Doppler phases in Factory New, on October 25, 2026, where that wear is listed on at least 3 marketplaces with 10 or more listings.
| Karambit, Factory New | Price | Marketplaces |
|---|---|---|
| Doppler Phase 1 | $1,191.29 | 14 |
| Doppler Phase 2 | $1,701.70 | 14 |
| Doppler Phase 3 | $1,188.79 | 14 |
| Doppler Phase 4 | $1,254.70 | 13 |
| Doppler Ruby | $7,282.36 | 13 |
| Doppler Sapphire | $4,461.89 | 14 |
| Doppler Black Pearl | $8,166.34 | 13 |
| Gamma Doppler Phase 1 | $1,809.23 | 13 |
| Gamma Doppler Phase 2 | $2,189.06 | 13 |
| Gamma Doppler Phase 3 | $1,537.64 | 13 |
| Gamma Doppler Phase 4 | $1,455.18 | 13 |
| Gamma Doppler Emerald | $6,685.13 | 14 |
Same knife, same wear: only the phase differs. Check one phase on every marketplace with the price checker, where you can pick the phase.
How we price knives
Each wear's price is the middle of the lowest listings on the marketplaces we track, normal versions only (no StatTrak). The Steam Market is left out (it pays out only in Steam Wallet funds), and so are BUFF163 and Youpin (they pay out only through Alipay or WeChat Pay), the same rule as the price checker's headline price. A wear only counts as a knife type's cheapest or most expensive when it is listed on at least 3 marketplaces with at least 10 listings in total, so one odd listing can't top the list. Prices don't cover pattern or low-float premiums. They refresh daily; the ones on this page are from October 25, 2026. The most expensive knives overall are on most expensive CS2 knives.
FAQ
- How much does a CS2 knife cost?
- On October 25, 2026, from about $35.34 (the Shadow Daggers | Black Laminate, Well-Worn) to about $11,624.98 for the priciest knife that trades often enough to have a clear price. Those are median prices across the big marketplaces for the normal (not StatTrak) version. The 30 lowest-priced knives are on our cheapest knives list.
- How many knives are in CS2?
- 20 knife types, and 576 knife skins across them. That count includes each type's vanilla knife (no finish) and counts every Doppler and Gamma Doppler phase as its own skin, the way the marketplaces list them.
- What are the knife types in CS2?
- Bayonet, Flip Knife, Gut Knife, Karambit, M9 Bayonet, Huntsman Knife, Butterfly Knife, Falchion Knife, Shadow Daggers, Bowie Knife, Navaja Knife, Stiletto Knife, Talon Knife, Ursus Knife, Classic Knife, Nomad Knife, Paracord Knife, Skeleton Knife, Survival Knife, Kukri Knife. The default knife every player starts with isn't counted.
- What is the newest knife in CS2?
- The Kukri Knife, which came in the Kilowatt Case on February 6, 2024, per Valve's update notes. No new knife type has come out since then in Valve's notes up to October 25, 2026. New finishes for existing knives do still come: Valve's Fever Case of 31 March 2025 brought the Shattered Web knives in Chroma finishes.
- What are the odds of getting a knife from a case?
- About 0.256% per case, or 1 in 391, for the rare special item, which is a knife in knife cases and gloves in glove cases. That follows from the ratios Perfect World, Valve's partner in China, published in 2017. A key costs $2.49 on Steam, so 1 in 391 openings costs about $973.59 in keys alone, before the cases. 10% of case knives are StatTrak.
- Can you trade up to a knife?
- Yes, since Valve's update of 22 October 2025. Five Covert skins go into a trade up contract and give one knife from a collection of one of the skins you put in. Five regular Coverts can give a knife or gloves; five StatTrak Coverts give a StatTrak knife.
- Which knife types cost the least?
- By the cheapest knife you can buy of each type, on October 25, 2026: Shadow Daggers from $35.34, Navaja Knife from $36.03, Kukri Knife from $37.57. The Butterfly Knife is the priciest type to get into, from $387.21.
- What is the most expensive knife in CS2?
- Among knives that trade often enough to have a clear price, the M9 Bayonet | Doppler (Ruby) in Minimal Wear at about $11,624.98 on October 25, 2026. Single rare knives (a special pattern, a very low float) sell for more in private deals that no price list covers.
- Do knives come in StatTrak?
- Yes, every one of the 576 knife skins has a StatTrak version, and none has a Souvenir version. Prices on this page are for the normal versions; StatTrak usually costs more.
