CS2 M14 leak: what the new weapon's game file actually says

CS2 might be getting a new weapon. An M14 has been sitting in Counter-Strike 2's weapon file since the Rush Hour update on 22 September 2026, and it's still there in today's build. Valve hasn't announced it, it isn't in any patch notes, and you can't buy it in any mode.

Reports since then disagree on details like the magazine size, so we read the file ourselves: scripts/weapons.vdata, as tracked build by build in SteamDB's public GameTracking-CS2 repository. Everything below comes from that file, checked on 13 October 2026.

So on paper it hits exactly as hard as the AWP, with the same armour penetration and the same $100 kill reward, for $650 less. The trade-off is a slower gun: 1.85 seconds between shots against the AWP's 1.455, and the same 1.85 seconds to draw it.

Sniper or rifle?

Less of a sniper than the headlines suggest. The file puts it in the rifle slot, not a sniper category, and tags it "aimsight" and "noscope": you aim down iron sights (a 75 field of view, one zoom level) instead of looking through a scope. It fires the AWP's .338 ammunition, loads one round at a time, shows no crosshair, and drops you out of the sights after every shot.

It carries five rounds in the magazine and five spare. That settles the reports of one bullet per magazine: the file says five.

How finished is it?

Not very. The M14 has no world model yet, it uses a placeholder animation class called "weapon_temp", and its firing sound is borrowed from the AWP. That's what an early prototype looks like in the files, not a gun that's about to ship.

Valve has put out eight CS2 updates since Rush Hour, the last on 8 October, and none of their notes mention it.

Will the M14 come to CS2?

Nothing in the file says when, or whether. Weapons can sit in the files for a long time, change completely, or never ship at all. If it does arrive, expect the numbers above to move.
