Danger Zone is back in CS2: how to play Epidemic's remake
October 3, 2026 · by MattCS
Danger Zone, the battle royale mode Counter-Strike lost when CS:GO became CS2, is playable again. Not from Valve: from Epidemic, the creator behind the CS2Inspects inspect servers, who released a community remake on 30 September 2026.
"CS2 Danger Zone BETA is now live", Epidemic posted, calling it "a faithful recreation of the original CS:GO Game Mode." The post passed 2,000 likes within days, and some of the biggest CS accounts on X shared it.

How to play Danger Zone in CS2
It runs inside CS2 itself, through the Steam Workshop and community servers. There's nothing extra to install beyond the Workshop items.
- Go to epidemic.gg/dangerzone and subscribe to the Workshop asset pack and the maps.
- Pick a server from the list on that page and press Connect, or copy its
connectcommand into the CS2 console. - Join early: until the second wave, a match is still in its respawn phase, so you drop straight in and can respawn if you die. Join later and you spectate until the next round.
Press Tab or 5 in game to open the lobby tablet. From there you can invite anyone on the server to a duo with Party, or tick Auto-match me.
It's free, with no sponsor and no ads. Epidemic also says the mod has no social media pages of its own, only the website and its Discord, so anything else using its name isn't official.
Maps and what's in it
Three maps rotate, and players vote for the next one after every match: Blacksite, Sirocco and Junglety. Duos are in from the start.
Epidemic has shipped changes almost daily since launch:
- 1 October: proper Bump Mine animations and HUD updates, plus fixes for different screen resolutions.
- 2 October: a ranking system that rates you on how you played against the lobby, an end-of-game screen, a new kill feed that shows when a whole squad is wiped, and a spectator HUD.

Servers
When we checked on 3 October there were 8 servers: two in North America, five in Europe and one in Asia (Singapore), with 92 players online. Epidemic says Hong Kong and South America are next on the list, depending on how many people keep playing over the next few weeks.
Players get a vote
Epidemic is clear that not everything has to stay as it was built. Community votes on changes start on Epidemic's Discord this Saturday, 4 October, beginning with the respawn waves in duos and the Repulsor.
Why this one could last
Danger Zone fans have seen a remake before: CSCO, a CS:GO mod that was shut down. Epidemic's take is that CSCO was a CS:GO mod its makers wanted to put on Steam as its own release, while this one runs within CS2 using the Workshop and server plugins. Valve itself hasn't said anything about bringing Danger Zone back. Epidemic doesn't expect Valve to shut it down either, pointing out that the mod was only possible because of the scripting tools Valve gave mod makers.
If you miss Danger Zone, this is the closest you can get right now, and it's free.
