PredictIt in 2026
PredictIt has been the US political prediction market since 2014. You buy shares in an outcome for 1 to 99 cents and they pay $1 if you're right. It runs under a CFTC staff no-action letter rather than as a licensed exchange. In July 2025 the CFTC let the market move from Victoria University of Wellington to a US not-for-profit, the Prediction Market Research Consortium, with Aristotle International running it day to day.
Markets
Politics only, by design: the CFTC letter excludes war, terrorism and assassination markets, and there are no sports or esports. The old cap of 5,000 traders per contract is gone; each contract's limit now follows the federal campaign-contribution limit, currently $3,500.
Bonus
We don't have a Betrefs code for PredictIt yet. We're working on one, so check back soon.
Fees and payments
PredictIt takes 10% of your profits. Since September 2026 ACH bank deposits and withdrawals are free (the old 5% withdrawal fee is gone), and card deposits carry a 3% processing fee.
Trust
In 2022 the CFTC withdrew PredictIt's no-action relief, saying it hadn't kept to its terms. The relief was restored and widened in 2025.
Verdict
Fine for small bets on US politics, and cheaper than it was. For anything else, including esports, it isn't the place.
