Steam Level Calculator

How much XP and how many badges it takes to go from your Steam level to any other, worked out with Steam's own rule: every 10 levels, each level costs 100 XP more.

Level 0 to 50: 0 XP to 15,000 XP in total. Each badge is 100 XP and a game's card badge can be crafted at most 5 times, so that's 150 badges from at least 30 games. You also get +250 friend slots and 5 more profile showcases.

How to use it

  1. Enter your current Steam level and the level you want.
  2. Optional: enter the XP you already have towards the next level, from your Steam Badges page.
  3. Optional: enter what you pay per card set to see the total cost.
  4. Read the XP, badges and the fewest games you need cards from. Copy the URL to share it.

The Steam level formula

Going from level L to L + 1 takes 100 x (L / 10 rounded down + 1) XP: 100 XP per level below 10, 200 from 10, 300 from 20, 1,100 from 100. Added up, reaching level N takes

total XP = 500 x t x (t + 1) + 100 x r x (t + 1)
where t = N / 10 rounded down, r = the rest (N - 10t)

So level 10 is 1,000 XP, level 50 is 15,000 XP and level 100 is 55,000 XP. A calculator that charges 100 XP x the level for every level gets level 10 as 5,500 XP; Steam's rule gives 1,000.

Badges assume 100 XP each; games assume 5 crafts of each game's badge. Card sets you buy on the Steam Market carry Steam's fees: the Steam fee calculator shows what a seller gets from your price. Some sites, like our free case, ask for a minimum Steam level.

FAQ

How much XP do you need for each Steam level?
Levels 1 to 10 take 100 XP each, levels 11 to 20 take 200 XP each, levels 21 to 30 take 300 XP each, and so on: every 10 levels, each level costs 100 XP more. That's the rule in Steam's Trading Cards FAQ.
How many badges do I need for level 100?
550 badges from level 0, which is 55,000 XP at 100 XP per badge. A game's card badge can be crafted at most 5 times, so that's cards from at least 110 different games.
How much XP is one badge?
Steam's FAQ says most badges are worth 100 XP, and each upgrade of a game badge (up to 5 crafts) gives another 100 XP. Event and sale badges can differ, so the calculator counts every badge as 100 XP.
What do you get for a higher Steam level?
Per Steam's FAQ, each level adds 5 slots to your friends list, and you get your first profile showcase at level 10 and another one every 10 levels. Higher levels also raise your chance of getting booster packs.
How much does it cost to level up on Steam?
It depends on which games' card sets you buy: Steam doesn't publish a price, and set prices change with the market. Enter what you pay per set in the calculator and it multiplies by the badges you need.
